Approx 1 mm thickness - vinyl is an excellent choice for bag making, often referred to as a "medium-weight" or "bag-weight" vinyl And offers good structure for purses, totes, and pouches. It is generally suitable for domestic machines when using the correct needle and foot.
Key Considerations for Sewing 1mm Vinyl:
- Sewing Machine Needles: Use a Microtex needle (size 80/12 or 90/14) or a specialized leather/vinyl needle.
- Presser Foot: A Teflon foot or roller foot is helps prevent the vinyl from sticking to the machine. If you don't have one, placing Scotch tape or tissue paper on the bottom of a regular foot can work.
- Stitch Length: Use a longer stitch length, around 2.5mm to 3mm.
- Securing: Use sewing clips instead of pins to avoid leaving permanent holes in the material.
Heat sensitive - do NOT touch with IRON.
***When making a retreat bag I did not use interfacing on the vinyl : I put EBFuse light and Thermolam on the lining piece.
