Legit Classes, Patterns & Fabric Kits

The KATZ is excited to host a SEWcation dedicated to learning and sewing Legit Kits FPP.  Jocelyn Marchuk is our instructor and here is some background

name is Jocelyn Marchuk and I was born and raised in the beautiful Swan River Valley in Manitoba, where I continue to reside with my husband, Lyle. Together, we own and operate a grain and cattle farm in the community of Bowsman.

Our children are grown now, but we are lucky to have both of them live, and raise their families in our community, as well.  Our family continues to grow with two grand-daughters, one grandson, and one more little blessing on the way.

I have been a maker” for as long as I can remember, creating art using many different forms and mediums.  I have enjoyed them all, but my favourite is quilting and creating unique fabric art works with special meaning to people. I love to teach and share my knowledge and techniques with anyone that is interested in learning.

I made my first quilt about 20 years ago; a stack and whack.  I fell in love with the entire quilting process, making quite a few quilts before a busy life with teenagers filled my schedule and my sewing machine started gathering dust.

After retiring 13 years ago from a job I loved for 25 years, I casually stopped at the local fabric store. while shopping with a friend. It just so happened they were having a retreat that day and someone had cancelled. I asked them what it was all about and they asked me to join them for, what turned out to be a game changing moment for me. I quickly went home, dusted off my sewing machine, returned to the store and I was back at it - hook, line, and sinker (the quilt in the above photo was my “return to quilting” project at that retreat).  I have made hundreds of new and wonderful friends while quilting in a variety of venues. I have completed more quilts than I can count and have no intention of slowing down!

Raw Edge Appliqué and Foundation Paper Piecing are my absolute favorite quilting techniques.

My favourite paper piecing designers are:  Legit Kits, Pride and Joy Quilting, Hobby Landing and Violet Craft. I have had the pleasure and privilege of pattern testing for all of these designers and have been an ambassador and instructor for Legit Kits for the past several years. All of these amazing designers have trusted me with their designs and have accepted my input and critique in the development of their new patterns.

Toni Whitney, has also been a huge inspiration to me in my applique works.  Because of this inspiration, I have created several of my own patterns and portraits.

I enjoy creating special quilts for charities and design one of a kind items for bereaved families who have lost loved ones, or for those who want to preserve special memories.

I can’t say enough about how much enjoyment I have received through the art of quilting. I have had some amazing opportunities over the past couple of years, teaching various quilting techniques and sharing the joy of quilting in many of the communities across this beautiful country.

I developed a foundation paper piecing technique, while pattern testing the Legit Kits Monarch – a quilt with 115 different fabrics.  I call this new technique 2EZ Foundation Paper Piecing. It is a simple approach that takes the stresses out of organizing, cutting and assembling all of the fabrics in FPP designs. Even seasoned FPP quilters have found it to be a total game changer.

This technique was demonstrated at Quilt Canada 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I am happy to teach and share this technique with anyone who is interested, especially those who have been intimidated by foundation paper piecing.

I look forward to visiting with your group and sharing my favorite designs and the designers who inspire me.

Happy Quilting, Everyone!
